In the lap of nature.

It was a fine refreshing morning in the lap of nature with clouds floating over the mountains in front of our cottage. The Kosi River flowing at the foothills made the most melodious song of nature. That’s one of the normal days at Corbett hideaway, near Ramnagar. We stayed in the resort in last week of August 2013.

This was our first visit to Jim Corbett national park and we luckily got to stay in one of the finest resorts, that too in a river front- cottage which proved to be the icing-on-cake. It is a wonderfully managed resort with extremely courteous staff and one of the finest chefs. One fine morning my husband literally got into the kitchen to learn the famous’poha’-a north Indian breakfast from the chef. We enjoyed the most delicious meals during our stay. The Corbett national park was closed but we never missed it due to the luxurious stay in the lush green resort. We certainly had an elephant ride one day and a visit to nearby gharjia temple, situated in the middle of Kosi River.

I went to a small bridge nearby on my morning walks which offered breathtaking views of jungles and the river. Later I came to know that tigers had been spotted at the same place many times. My four year old son had an excellent time in the pool on ‘dry days’. Rest of the days we enjoyed rains from our living room. Best place to relax in the lap of nature and ‘be yourself’.

Lost in woods She looked here and there helplessly but no one was around. In hills it is difficult to get help. The local population is very less, that too distributed sparsely across various villages. She had no idea where she was. This was her first job and she had come with her uncle to see the college. Her uncle also happened to teach in the same college and this had put her quite in ease. She knew she had a support to fall back on. She was quite terrified to be in a campus where all the students were from very affluent families. This was an engineering college in national capital region which ran primarily on capitation fee. Hence the students who could manage to take admission in this college were born to rich or super-rich parents. We call it ‘ovarian –lottery’. She was wearing a maroon cotton suit, dupatta taken like a shawl, which made her look ‘desi’ yet elegant. She was quite unsure how she was going to tackle the ‘Porsche ambience ‘of the college. But she was determined to make it. After taking a round of the college her uncle left her at her department. There were three people in the department. Most missed moment of my life (a secret love story) She was delighted to accompany her rich aunt back to Delhi. Ever since she was young she had seen her aunt as the center of attraction in all the weddings and functions of her house. Today her fancy of visiting her aunt’s place would be fulfilled. Though aunt had grown old, but her expensive jeweler and clothes still flaunted her lavish lifestyle.
