Today
morning I had a chance to offer my prayers at the celebrity temple of shri
siddivinayak temple at prabhadevi, Mumbai. Though I managed to leave my
residence just as the day dawned, but I was surprised to encounter the
Mumbai-traffic at this hour near Dadar Bridge. The taxi charged fairly via
meter and dropped me right outside the temple.
As I was
stepping in there were multiple shops for Prasad right outside the temple
premises. One of the boys hushed me to take Prasad from his shop. There were multiple
plastic baskets each containing a coconut, a small red decorative chunari, a
garland, few loose flowers and hardly few pieces of sweet. My atheist and
practical mind immediately rebelled for paying a substantial amount for the
above arrangement. Moreover entering empty handed never seemed proper option
even in the eyes of fellow devotees or even God. Hence I ran my calculations
and bought half kilos of motichoor-ladoos (the favorite sweet of Lord Ganeesha
and my son too) in price costing less than that plastic basket. Then I
compulsively bought some flowers. Happy with my shopping I proceeded inside the
temple.
The temple
has been done in white marble stone with beautiful golden carvings on the roof
and side walls. Inside the shrine there is a beautiful idol of Lord Ganeesha in
gold-color metal. Luckily there wasn’t a long queue for the ‘darshan’. Many
people were sitting on the stairs in front of the shrine. A middle aged man was
fiddling with his phone, looking at the God in middle. Few people were sitting
in meditative posture contemplating within. A young couple was busy chatting, probably
on the safest place in neighborhood. A young man was diligently doing his job
standing on a bench in front of shrine and asking people to move on. I also sat
on the stairs sometime trying to imbibe the ambience.
Finally when
I got ready to leave I saw an interesting sight on one side. There were two
metal statues of rat of moderate sizes kept on stands. I saw people whispering
something in the ears of those rats. I couldn’t resist my smile as I understood
that people were asking their wishes to be fulfilled via those rats. It made an
amusing sight .i even confirmed my thesis from a lady who started smiling as
she explained the concept to me. Finally I clicked some photos for my blog and
happily returned home with some interesting moments with Lord Ganeesha.
You do not have an atheist mind...at the most you might be agnostic during some passing moments; otherwise, you have a deep faith in life, which is the actual implication of being a theist.
